Oprah Winfrey has been the subject of big news this week: First, she gave a rousing Golden Globes speech so inspirational it sparked serious, continuing discussion about a possible run for the presidency. But now, just days later, she's back in the news for an entirely separate and somber matter. Her Montecito home has been damaged by the Southern California mudslides that resulted when the season's first storm ravaged burn areas left vulnerable by the largest fire in the the state's history.
Oprah shared a post on Instagram with her 12 million followers that gives a glimpse into the aftermath. In the video clip, she wades through a sea of mud on her property, surveying the damage to her own and her neighbors' estates. "There used to be a fence there," she notes.
But in her caption, she expresses more gratitude and relief than dismay for her 65-acre property known as Promised Land: "Thanks everyone for your prayers and concern. My property is fine. Some mud, and minor damage that pales in comparison to what my neighbors are going thru.”
